Acme Fresh Market is a grocery store chain based in Akron, Ohio, United States, that has 16 locations in Summit, Portage, Stark, and Cuyahoga counties of Northeast Ohio. It was established in 1891. Opening a new location in Green, Ohio, the design team of Steve Albrecht, Schumacher Designs, and Krumroy-Cozad Construction sought input to include quilt based designs throughout the new store.
Information
Early planning was based upon intalling stained concrete into the foyer floor. Designs were created combining traditional quilt patterns and illustrations of food items, but due to limitations in scheduling and concerns about the durability of the medium, the design was scaled back to use cut tile for the patterns. It was somewhat disheartening not to be able to implement the higher impact designs but the footwork on this project paved the way for many other designs throughout the store's interior.
