About
The Artist
John Lefelhocz was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1967 and grew up in both Richmond, Virginia and Cleveland, Ohio. He gained recognition as a Quilt Artist in the late 1990's and has since shown works nationally and internationally in this medium. John also creates works in many other media including sculpture, painting, cartography, and the graphic arts.
The "J" Word
The term "juxtapassion" is attributed to Lefelhocz , which he describes as placing the things one feels very strongly about side by side for creative purposes.

Quilts
Known for his fantastic imagery that grabs the viewers attention, John Lefelhocz is considered one of the pioneers of the Art Quilt Movement in Ohio, and has recently been recognized, internationally, as one of 40 leading masters in this field.

Made popular by M.C. Escher, a tessellation or tiling of the plane is a collection of plane figures that fills the plane with no overlaps and no gaps.

Athens Quilt Barns
This is a project the John participated in as a designer. Athens has some traditional blocks, but their focus is more on highlighting the features of the county. John designed several blocks and provided artistic support for the painting of all the blocks. There are also some future blocks featured here.
Quilt Barn Cycling
This project grew from the design work for the Athens County Quilt Barns. In addition to a self guided tour, there is an annual group tour as well.
